HD DVD droht der Todesstoß von Paramount

Der Kampf der Giganten scheint entschieden: Mit Paramount Pictures verabschiedet sich einem Zeitungsbericht zufolge das vorletzte große Hollywoodstudio vom Microsoft-Format HD DVD. Der Ausstieg dürfte die Blu-ray Disc von Sony als neuen Video-Standard zementieren.

Vier der sechs großen Studios sind jetzt im Blu-ray-Lager: Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox und Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer hatten sich schon vor einiger Zeit für die von Sony unterstützte blaue Scheibe entschieden, am Freitag schloss sich - selbst für so manchen Insider völlig überraschend - Warner der Blu-ray-Allianz an.

Genau für diesen Fall, berichtet nun die "Financial Times", habe Paramount eine Klausel im Vertrag mit der HD-DVD-Group: Wenn Warner aussteigt, so sei dort niedergelegt, könne auch Paramount seine Bindung an die HD DVD als Medienträger lösen und ins andere Lager wechseln. Auf Nachfrage von SPIEGEL ONLINE konnte die Agentur, die Paramount Home Entertainment in Deutschland vertritt, zunächst keinen Kommentar zu dem Bericht abgeben. Ein Brancheninsider, der nicht namentlich genannt werden wollte, sagte SPIEGEL ONLINE aber: "Das Ding ist durch. Blu-ray ist der Standard."

Für den Hersteller Toshiba, der viel Geld in die Entwicklung von HD-DVD-Playern investiert hat, wäre das ein harter Schlag - ebenso wie für Microsoft. Der Software-Gigant hatte sich vehement für die HD DVD engagiert, Gerüchten zufolge auch finanziell.

Gemeinsam mit Universal ist Paramount derzeit das letzte große Studio, dessen Produkte auf HD DVDs auf den Markt kommen sollen.

Die MS-Hasser dürfte es freuen. Mir ist's eigentlich wurscht, Hauptsache, das Bild ist scharf und der Ton ist gut.

Habe kürzlich mal nen DVD-blue ray-Vergleich auf nem großen LCD gesehen, das war schon verblüffend.

Wenns nachher in meinem Wohnzimmer genauso funktioniert, sage ich: blue ray - herzlich willkommen! Zwinkern

für die die das noch nicht selbst gesehen haben, das bild ist wirklich extrem detailreich und nahezu plastisch und zusätzlich ist der sound noch mal verbessert worden mit true-hd sound klatt es richtig Zwinkern

freut mich dass es bluray nun wahrscheinlich geschafft hat. ansich wär´s mir egal weil sich die qualität ja nicht großartig entscheidet aber da ich mir irgendwann ne PS3 zulegen möchte muss ich da etwas parteiisch sein sodass ich in zukunft alle filme im bluray vormat bekomm Zwinkern
