OK - Since I'm in a good mood, I quickly created an MP3 disk using Nero software. Made sure the tracks were named in 8.3 format (not sure you have to) and put songs in two separate folders and......

.....they play fine

You get minimal info on the tracks being played (no suprises there), but it plays MP3
