Die Konsequenzen, die bei einem bewiesenen unerlaubten Entfernen vom Unfallort drohen, sind erheblich und oft existenzbedrohend.
Zivilrechtlich gleicht der eigene Haftpflichtversicherer zwar die gegnerischen Schadenersatzansprüche aus, hat aber die Möglichkeit, den unfallbeteiligten Versicherungsnehmer für einen Teil der entstandenen Kosten in Regress zu nehmen.
Die strafrechtlichen Konsequenzen hängen von den Umständen (u.a. Höhe des Schadens, eigener strafrechtliche Vorbelastungen etc.) ab. Es droht eine Geldstrafe oder Freiheitsstrafe, die Beschlagnahme des Führerscheins, die Entziehung der Fahrerlaubnis, eine Sperre für die Neuerteilung der Fahrerlaubnis.
Darüber hinaus droht für Fahranfänger eine Nachschulung und eine Verlängerung der Probezeit, wenn nicht bereits die Fahrerlaubnis entzogen wurde. Für alle anderen 7 bzw. 5 Punkte im Verkehrszentralregister.
