Tuning - help
#1

Hello. Again me, from slovenia. Smile

I do not know what to do?

Tell me. Which pulley is right for MTH software? 15, 17 or 19%

Are they any problems with MTH? How to change pulley?

Does anybody do that at home? It is possible to go something wrong with that pulley and software? Engine blow up or something?

Does MTH remap just engine software or change DSC and ASC too?

I can't decide which tuning it's better, safety and for less money.

Thanks

Bye

Tell me. Which pulley is right for MTH software? 15, 17 or 19%
The 15% reduced pulley is the standard for MTH software. If you mount a smaller one (17% or even 19%) then the mixture will become too lean you could get thermical problems with the piston. Maybe MTH offers a special software for these smaller pulleys, but please consider that
- you would need a smaller belt - with the 15% reduced pulley you may use the original belt
- the stableness of the machine would be reduced
- the supercharger could exceed the maximum revolution speed.

Are they any problems with MTH?
As far I know there are no problems with MTH. Many members of this forum already MTH-tuned their minis and there are no complaints.

How to change pulley?
There are different ways to change the pulley. You either lift the engine to reach the pulley or you dismount the complete front of the mini. I think to lift the engine is the easiest way, but you need to do that very carefully. In order to remove the pulley you need a special tool. Otherwise it is almost impossible to get it off the shaft. Here are nice instructions how to replace the pulley lifting the engine: http://www.promini.com/technical/install...ctions.pdf

Does anybody do that at home?
We did it in a private workshop.

It is possible to go something wrong with that pulley and software? Engine blow up or something?
If you lift the engine without damaging cables or sockets, remove the pulley without damaging the supercharger, mount the proper pulley, upload the proper software then there is no problem. Personally I would prefer a two-piece, self centering pulley, because it is much easier to install and it is almost impossible to make a mistake.

Does MTH remap just engine software or change DSC and ASC too?
MTH will change the behaviour of ASC. It is much better afterwards, because less reactive. I think, the MTH software leaves a minimum tourque on the wheels, but it is the best, if you ask MTH about the details.

I can't decide which tuning it's better, safety and for less money.
That is actually your turn Smile :)

Hi Fisher,

as far as i know the new pulley has diameter 56,5mm, serial pully 63mm? (don´t know exactly). Usually it is installed bei HiTec in Viernheim.

To remove the serial pulley and fit the new one, you need a special tool, because it is friction-locked (shrinkage assembly). It is recommended, to let this work do by specialists, because parts of the front module have to be removed and the engine has to be lifted a little bit to reach the compressor.

If you are an technical expert and you would like to try the alteration on your own, you should read up on this very well. Guess, there are many things that can go wrong.

The quality of the work done by HiTec in Viernheim is afaik very good, because they did this remount very often. But i understand this way may be too far to go for you.

The MTH software also changes the limits of DSC. Franz is setting them up to 100Nm slip.

The HiTec Tuning kit is absolute good value. Many cars run with this alternation and afaik no one talked about problems until today. A few days ago, i had the possibility to drive HiTec on my own and it was really fun. Will do it as well.

I hope, i could give you some help.

@haimar: Top

Franz adapts the software individually if smaller Pullys are mounted. To 15 % fits the standart MTH file, at smaller Pulley simply inform him before sending the original File, he knows what´s to do Zwinkern

That 57 mm (15 %) Pulley in connection with the MTH software did not bring up to now any problem with themselves, this version brings a lot of fun without coming in an unnecessary risk.

Still remember: The risk of a charger / engine failure climbs with every mm the the Pulley smaller becomes.

Good talk boys. Thanks.

What about the cold air filter and other spark plug?
I have already change them. A had a BMC CDA filter and Denso Iridium IK20 spark plug.

Do i must tell that to MTH or is the software the same?

About 19% smaller pulley i was reading, that it's not good, but it's more power and torque at lower rpm.

We had a good tuner here in slovenia. In next week he will doing first mini cooper s at his own. I will report result. So it's hard to decide wich is better. We will se.

Hi tech is to far for me. In one way i have 800 km. Does hitech put on the car MTH software?

What is the price for MTH software and they the right pulley? Could i buy the pulley here in europe or i must order it from USA?

Boys, you are great. Thanks. Sonne Top

The car also works with serial spark plugs. My car works with MTH software and serial plugs without any problems. Although HiTec recommends spark plugs with a higher calorific value because of rised cylinder head temperatures. With HiTec, you even reach about 162kW.

Fisher schrieb:About 19% smaller pulley i was reading, that it's not good, but it's more power and torque at lower rpm.

Of course you achieve more power, but the water pump is combined with the charger. If you increase rpm of charger, the speed of the water pump will also rise. I guess, 56,5mm is really near the border killing the pump.

HiTec is using MTH Software. It is adapted to the charger modification. If you do the software update on your own, it´s pretty cheap, because you only need to registrate at MTH and buy a OBD3-cable. Then you can read out the original file, send it to MTH (email). Franz sends your new file back and you can flash it into your control unit. The registration ist about 60€, the cable also. To flash the data, you need a laptop.

But if you way to drive is "only" 800 km one way, I give you the advice to drive to HiTec Viernheim. These guys did the modification a dozen times and you will be glad, having this work done by specialists. Although you can take out a tuning policy. Price for the HiTec mod. ist about 650€ including performance test and "TÜV".

by using the bmc cda filter you will lose power! the airflow to the filter is definitly suboptimal (it doesn't matter if you're using the "shortcut" with the intake in front of the windscreen or the original way). the reason for this is the small engine compatement. the best solution is the original air-filter box with an after market panel filter (like k&n).

hitec is using for their conversion beru spark plugs but i'm sorry i've forgotten the type Confused
